  • PD stands for Pupillary Distance, which is the distance between your pupils in millimeters. PD is very important for accurately fitting your lenses to achieve visual clarity.
  • Generally, PD numbers do not change for adults.
  • The average PD range for adults is 55-75 mm and for kids is about 42-55 mm. A difference of 2-3 mm is acceptable.

  1. PD (OU), written as “64”, means the Binocular PD which is for both eyes.
  2. DUAL PD, or monocular PD, consists of two numbers and is the distance between the centers of each pupil to the bridge of the nose
  3. Dual PD is written as two numbers, for example, “32/32”, the first one “32” represents the PD for the right eye, and the second one “32” represents the PD for the left eye.
  4. Sometimes PD is written as “62/59” or they are labeled “Far” and “Near”. Your PD is usually measured for distance vision, which is ‘Far PD”, or “62” in this example. For reading glasses, doctors measure your “Near PD” or “59” in the example.
  5. Always enter your “Far PD” for distance vision eyeglasses and enter your ‘Near PD” for your reading glasses only. For most people, the difference between Far PD and Near PD is about 2-3mm.
  • Uploading the original prescription is recommended. This will avoid making mistakes when filling in Rx form.
  • Our professional optometrists will help check and identify your prescription.

  • All the frames can be made with plain lenses. Just choose the non-prescription lenses when you order.
  • If you do not need the lenses, just leave a message in your order.
  1. Measure your old pair of glasses to get the dimensions that fit you the best. With these measurements, you can easily compare them to the frames on our website. Please see the photos below for guidance on frame measurements (2mm difference is acceptable).

  2. You can also read the dimensions on your old glasses. The size is usually written on the temple arm.
  • 45 stands for Lens Width, which is the horizontal width (in millimetres) of each lens.
  • 20 stands for Bridge Distance, which is the distance (in millimetres) between your two lenses.
  • 140 stands for Temple Length, which is the length (in millimetres) from each screw to its temple tip.

  • Metal is the most widely used material to make eyeglass frames. Many people opt for metal frames because they are attractive and for their malleability and resistance to corrosion.
  • Titanium frames are very popular because they are lightweight, durable, strong, and corrosion-resistant. Titanium frames can be made in a range of different styles, from modern to classic. They are also hypoallergenic, and they retain their shape better than other metals as they flex when a force is applied.
  • Stainless Steel frames are lightweight, high strength, and hypoallergenic. It is hard to make eyeglasses frames with stainless steel due to welding difficulties; however, stainless steel temples are extremely springy.
  • TR is referred to as plastic titanium. TR frames are lightweight and resistant to impacts and high temperature. It comes in a range of colours and won’t release any chemical residues. However, it is a little less durable than metal and may fade, and lose strength over time.
  • Acetate is a nylon-based plastic, which means it’s very strong and lightweight. Acetate comes in many different colours, with a high, rich lustre and is produced in high quality, sandwiched sheets. The frame is stamped out from these sheets and requires handcrafting to attain its final shape and appearance. With their wide range of colours and glossy finish, acetate frames combine hard wearing durability with stylish good looks.
  • Ultem is a polyetherimide resin.  Ultem glasses are strong, stiff and resistant to a broad range of chemicals. Their lightweight and flexibility makes them very comfortable to wear.

When purchasing single vision eyeglasses, wearers with higher prescription strength should be aware that a large frame with a wider lens is not recommended, instead a smaller and narrower lens width will contribute to a thinner edge, lighter weight and greater comfort.
a. Lens index: Applying higher index lenses (1.60 index and above) can solve the problem of having a thick edge on a Negative lens, or a thick centre on a Positive lens. Combining a higher index lens with an aspheric shape results in a lens which is noticeably thinner and lighter, bringing better vision, and a more comfortable wearing experience.

b. Farsighted lenses: For farsighted wearers (there is “+” in front of SPH value) who want to select a higher index lens above 1.60, please note, the maximum size of a high index positive lens is relatively small (just 55mm), so we recommend that customers choose a frame no wider than 50mm.

c. Small PD: For wearers that have a comparatively small PD (the distance between your pupils is less than 58mm), please pay more attention to the total width of the frame as a larger frame may not match your PD. A smaller frame with a lens width of 50mm or lower should be considered as the first choice in order to ensure the accuracy of your prescription.

This predominantly depends on the strength of your prescription. The higher the prescription, the higher index is required for ensuring your lenses are as light and thin as possible.

Please note: The ultimate thickness of the lenses is determined by the frame size (including lens height, lens width), frame material and your PD. If you choose a big frame the lens edge will undoubtedly be thick. Frames with thin metal rim will also make the lens look thicker. If the frame is not the best for your PD, the lens may not be beautiful and thin as you expect.

Below are diagrams of the lens power v indexing of the lens.

Sorry, the contact lens prescription can only be used for contact lenses. The reason is the prescriptions are slightly different as one is designed to be directly on the eye and the other is designed to be in front of the eye.
